Yep, That Would be a Vagina...
Vulvology - Which I assume refers to the study of vulvas - is a website dedicated to showing pictures of vaginas. Actually I think the plural of vagina is vaginae, but have you ever heard anyone use that word before? Other than in the medical profession, maybe? No? Neither have I, so I'm going to keep using "vaginas."
Anyways, the site is supposed to be "an homage to the eternal and ubiquitous woman, through the glorification of her geographic and conceptual center, enveloped in mystery in all cultures and ages," and the creator is apparently very upset that it is often classified as porn since she is so staunchly against all forms of pornography. On this I agree. Picture after picture of vaginas doing nothing but sitting there is not porn. If viewers get turned on by them, so be it, but just because something causes sexual excitement does not mean it's necessarily porn. After all, many people think high heeled boots are a turn-on, but shoe shops aren't porn shops after all!
However, I find her absolute dislike of all pornography off-putting. "Did I tell you how I dislike pornography?" She says and, "You know what I hate the most? It's when they make the girls open their lips (labia) with their hands." Hmmm, I personally get really excited when my lover tells me to do exactly this. It makes me feel sexy, tempting, and desired. I love that he wants to look at me that closely, and adore being given orders in bed. But, to each her own.
So although I was annoyed reading her vagina-attached thoughts, and was mostly confused by the strange labels she used to categorize the pictures (Bivalve, Leaves, Walnuts?), its pseudo-feminist oddities intrigued me. Plus, if I ever wondered what other women's vaginas looked like without the porn-star makeovers, consider my curiosity sated.
(WARNING: This site has an obnoxious amount of pop-ups, so use your pop-up blocker if you have one!)

Very intersting site... though you need to warn people about the popups, the 5 pages I looked at had 17 popups, which of course my browser blocked, but still damn annoying...
and yeah I've ran across those funky labels before myself, from my take it is supposed to take away from the 'porno' aspect of it by labeling it something 'friendly' or non-conspicuous.
and I'm with you, I love'em spread!
You're right about the pop-ups, sorry. I will add a warning.
Those labels really raised my eyebrows, especially the "walnuts." lol I mean I could sort of understand if it was labeling male genitalia, but what exactly would female walnuts be?!! :)
with the descriptive wording people are usually describing the 'lips' of the vagina... think of what a walnut looks like, all crinkly and wrinkled now I'm sure you've seen a pair of 'lips' that resemble that...
It just occured to me that we pretty much are the main commentators on your blog... oh well I guess
I know. Ever since JoyScape seems to have disappeared my daily traffic has gone way down. :( It used to be around 300 and now it's like 50! Makes me so sad...but at least I have you and Nelli to talk to...
And I don't really appreciate my lips being compared to walnuts! I don't think that's a very flattering comparison at all. Who does she think she is? That's more offending than the "degrading" porn. lol
Maybe I'm pedantic, but this is not a vagina. This is a vulva. A vagina is a (virtual) cavity. If you don't agree, send me a message at
maxforas@gmail.com : we could talk about it
You are absolutely right Max, the picture is actually of a vulva - which is the proper name for all external female genitalia. The vagina is actually the passage itself that begins at the external opening and ends at the internal cervix, just before the uterus.
But again, like with the word vaginae, who refers to this part of the female body as a vulva in daily conversation?!
Good for you for knowing the difference! :)
